Nostril RetainerProduct Sterilization Before using this medical device for the first time, follow the instructions below:
Place the product in the box. Fill the box with about 10 ml of water up to the stepped section of the inner wall.
Close the lid and place the box in the microwave. Set the power to 750–1000 W. Set the time for 3 minutes.
Wait at least 5 minutes for the box to cool down.
If you do not have a microwave, you can sterilize the device using UV light or by placing it in boiling water. If none of these methods are available, wipe the device with the alcohol pad (high-alcohol wet wipe) provided in the product’s packaging.
Nostril Retainer — a new development in modern medicineMade of soft medical-grade silicone, the Nostril Retainer is used in reconstructive, plastic, and aesthetic nasal surgeries, as well as after cleft lip and palate surgery. The elasticity and resilience of the silicone allow for long-term wear. Purpose of the Nostril RetainerThe goal of using a Nostril Retainer is to ensure nostril symmetry after surgical procedures. During operations on the nose and upper lip, possible complications include collapse of one nostril or the nasal tip, displacement of the columella, and inward turning of the nostril. To prevent these issues, doctors recommend mandatory use of the Retainer to secure the nostrils in the correct position during the postoperative period.
How to Select and Use The Nostril Retainer comes in 14 sizes — for both children and adults:
Sizes 1–6: pediatric series
Sizes 7–14: adult series
Sizes are chosen based on nostril size and the depth of surgical intervention. Selection is performed individually by the doctor (the size may change as swelling decreases). In both open and closed rhinoplasty, surgeons work with the cartilage of the external nose, stitching it with absorbable sutures. Deformations of the septum may also occur. The Nostril Retainer ensures nostril symmetry and proper septum positioning. The device is also widely used in maxillofacial surgery for children after cleft lip and palate repair. Without a retainer, many patients develop nostril asymmetry due to tissue pulling during healing. Early use of the Retainer prevents this, promoting balanced healing.
Instructions for Use The Retainer should ideally be selected before surgery or based on the planned procedure. After surgery, the Retainer is inserted into the nasal cavity (nostrils).
First month: continuous wear
Following 3–6 months: periodic wear (several hours daily, daytime or nighttime), depending on doctor’s recommendations.
The device must be sterilized before each use (see sterilization instructions). Manufactured in Turkey, the Nostril Retainer is patented and used in leading university clinics across Turkey.
Conclusion After surgery, tissues and cartilage need several months for complete healing. Daily activities — talking, chewing, emotional expressions — constantly move the nasal structures. These movements can lead to deformation, collapse, or asymmetry of the nose. The Nostril Retainer helps stabilize the nasal cartilage, preserving symmetry until full postoperative recovery.
Actions to AvoidAvoid prolonged UV exposure.
Avoid iodine-containing antiseptics.
Details 1. Device Sizes The Retainer comes in multiple sizes and configurations.
Sizes 1–6: pediatric series for cleft lip/palate repair
Sizes 7–14: adult series for various nasal surgeries
Pediatric sizes include side wings connected with an elastic strap placed behind the head (for fixation during cleft repair). Each Retainer has a size number located at the central bridge that contacts the columella. The doctor must ensure correct size selection. 2. Material InformationThe Retainer is made of medical-grade silicone, biocompatible with the human body. The silicone is soft enough not to cause discomfort, yet firm enough to maintain nasal structure during healing. 3. Application InstructionsNostril Retainers are used to prevent deformation and asymmetry after nasal surgeries and cleft lip repair. They maintain nostril shape and the nasal sill after reconstructive, plastic, and aesthetic operations (rhinoplasty and septorhinoplasty). In children, they are particularly effective after cleft lip surgery. Postoperative use is recommended for 1–3 months, several hours daily.
4. Why does sliding or bulging not cause issues? The device is opened with both hands before insertion.
Insert it parallel into the nostrils in the opened position.
Once inserted, the elastic silicone restores its original shape inside the nasal passage ("latch effect").
This function is protected by a design registration certificate. Legal action will be taken against imitations.
5. Small differences that create perfect designOlder designs assumed the nasal bones were parallel during insertion — an incorrect anatomical approach. The new design aligns the bridge that connects the sleeves with the natural anatomy of the columella, ensuring proper fit and comfort.
6. Compatible AccessoriesA trial sizing kit (non-silicone, non-sterile) is available for doctors to determine patient size. The trial kit is provided free of charge to hospitals, clinics, and specialists.
